Seavington History Project
It has been some time since we updated you with news of our project and felt we should let you know of our progress.
Despite our best efforts, and a lot of strong support from various quarters we were not able to get a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Although disappointed, after all the work involved, it has given us a chance to re-examine our original intentions and rescale the project.
Throughout the whole application period, people have been offering us lots of old photographs of the villages, special events and family occasions. When our collection todate was made into a screen show for the Village Fete it aroused a lot of interest. We have also started to interview some of the older members of the community and gained some terrific insights into their lives, much of which was spent in the village.
We have decided to continue collecting as much as is available to us in photos, reminiscences, anecdotes etc., and proceed with the interviews otherwise this original material will be lost forever. We can then decide in what form we will publish the assembled information.
Regardless of what selection we make for publishing, we are still intent on setting up a Seavington History web-site as a repository for all the information we collect and receive during our project. It can include parish registers and specific family information as well.
This will allow other people to examine and use any information available for their own purposes. We can also reference useful sources of information that we have discovered during the process. It can be linked to the current village web-site.
We hope to arrange an event early next year with an updated screen show to let everyone see the progress being made. So keep searching! I don’t think we have any photos of Christmas in Seavington.
