Over the past few months new village residents have been moving in to Falcon Close, the small housing development on the former site of Lift West but originally the location for the village garage.
When Andrew Whitehouse, the founder and CEO of Lift West, elected to move to larger premises in Lopen Head he decided to gift three homes on the subsequent development of the site to the village. These were to be rented out as affordable housing to people with a connection to Seavington who could not otherwise afford to live here. Andrew passed on the commitment to the developer, Acorn Homes.
There followed a flurry of activity in which the village set up a Community Land Trust (CLT) to take custody of the homes, arrange their letting and maintenance.
At the beginning of the year the first residents moved in and now Andrew Whitehouse’s generosity has been recognised by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and the naming of the group of CLT-owned homes “Whitehouse Terrace”.
